Morningside College Updates Science Center

When the time came to kick up the dust after months of long-range planning, W.A. Klinger was selected to completely renovate the Jones Jacobsen Science Center on the campus of Morningside College. Klinger demolished the old science building, leaving only the exterior walls and floor slabs. Completely new mechanical, electrical, and laboratory systems were installed to provide the new learning facility with the latest high-tech teaching tools. A new two-story open-air lobby with skylights was also added to enhance the look and feel of the existing building.

This ambitious project unified the seven departments of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Math/Computer Science, Psychology, Education, and Nursing into one building complex. The new facility, renamed the James and Sharon Walker Science Center, creates a center of activity on the southern edge of the campus, and strengthens the identity of the sciences. Working with the long-range master plan, the beautiful new science center also forms a southern terminus for the planned north-south circulation mall through the campus.

Klinger completed all work on the newly renovated building in an amazing 6½ months.
