City Looks to Klinger/Mortenson to Build Ambitious New Arena

W.A. Klinger has played a major role in the growth of Sioux City over the years. This role continued when the City of Sioux City selected the Joint Venture of W.A. Klinger, L.L.C. and M. A. Mortenson Co. to provide the construction management services for the largest City project completed to date. The $53,000,000 Tyson Events Center provides new venues for the City of Sioux City by accommodating larger crowds and a greater variety of entertainment. This new structure also stands as a showcase for visitors and is a source of civic pride for the City of Sioux City.

The project involved several innovative structural solutions to build the new facility over the site of an existing landfill that had been used since the 1800’s. Additionally, an innovative solution was provided to minimize soil loading at the entry plaza by using Styrofoam fill material in lieu of dirt.

The Events Center was completed in a record 18 months and opened to the public on December 17, 2003. In tandem with the new structure, the Municipal Auditorium, which is adjacent and connected to the new Events Center, was remodeled into The Long Lines Family Center for use by all community members.
